Cone, aluminium / steel / silk, Marc Newson, Sydney, Australia, 1986
Description
Chair, 'Cone', aluminium / steel / silk, Marc Newson, Sydney, Australia, 1986
The chair is constructed from aluminium sheet and steel rivets, and consists of a conical form with the apex centrally supported within a hemispherical shaped base on the floor. The cone shape widens as it rises from the floor to provide a deep, curved back. The front section of the cone has been cut away and a seat formed. The back curves outwards at the top to form an overhanging, everted 'rim'. The seat, the interior surface of the back and the exposed interior of the base are upholstered in a cream-coloured silk brocade that features floral, leaf and fruit motifs.

History notes
The chair was exhibited in Newson's exhibition 'Seating for Six' held at Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Paddington, 3 - 21 June, 1986.
